The Outfit
This is not a new or original thought; I wore probably my most scandalous bra (full coverage and lace with tan lining). I have had it for years, its trusty, its boring, and it fit. Choosing this as a base, I knew I could only be styled up from there. Similar to my plans for the evening “Lets meet another couple at a bar, the bar is having a ‘special’ DJ”
She is short, she is loud, she is thrifted from a matching set, but most importantly she is
s t r e t c h y and has built in shorts, AMAZING find. This skirt was not only going to be unique but it literally covered my ass during my cycle. I drink a steady diet of socially pressured non-alcoholic beer, Heaps Normal in this country, not a sponsor… which does the same thing normal beer does which is bloat. This is where the stretchy came in handy. Also, as someone who does not normally wear short skirts, I needed that extra responsibility that stretch and shorts can only give a woman who grew-up wearing boot cut jeans and camo jorts. I know, stylish.
This was also a thrift find but more specifically a ‘yeah vintage’ find, lovely boutique shop in Margaret River with many pieces that flattered my flat chest and wide rectangle 5′ 2″ body type. Shear tops have become very common for going out shirts, maybe dated by this point but what made this top work was the texture and cut. Though it is made up of some slightly stretchy poly something or other the intentional creasing elongated my body. The creases fade which naturally allows the blouse to flare because the excess fabric thus lays nicely over the curves of the wearer. Ruffles on the chest further created the hour-glass shape and some fun texture up around my neck. My hair was not clean and was going back in a bun, so I had some neck space to play with. Ruffles on the arms were just fun and the sleeves stopped about mid-forearm, this prevented any opportunity for beverage clinking spill overs on my sleeves.
This top was surprisingly perfect and even had some eyes turning at the bar ( maybe ?).
Similarly, our chill night out with a couple of friends of ours actually turned out to be a group gathering of four couples and we met some really lovely people. Our new Perth friends are from the UK and four of their friends were in to celebrate the holidays in the heat. New faces really made the night, and I could not have asked for a better laid-back group of people.
Seen are two bright hand-made brass earrings and a matching bangle. The earrings were a little heavy and the bangle a little loud, but they really brought the NYE sparkle I needed in my matte outfit. The orange clip was actually replaced with a brass spring moon shaped clay clip, needed more strength for my clip because my hair is getting longer and I have no interest in redoing my hair while out and about. Not pictured are some orthopedic black leather platform sandals with fun chunky buckles. My lovely partner who chit chatted and kissed me at midnight also not pictured but he is probably one of my best accessories, and he is always willing to take my drink tickets.
